In 1961, Ralph Bouma started with one truck delivering Grand Rapids made, high-end new furniture and moving local household goods. As years progressed the business was expanded into a world-wide moving company affiliated with united van lines. Ralph envisioned how necessary and parallel self-storage would be in demand with the moving services. in 1977, our first self-storage building was constructed (the first in the area) and continued expanding, with a total of 10 buildings as of today (cement block & standing seam roofs) in Comstock Park on 8 acres, along 131, just north of i-96. Security is the utmost importance at Bouma with touch-key pad entry, vertical lift-gate, infra-red beams around the entire premises, and colored digital security camera's.

In 1990 another facility was purchased at 5241 Plainfield N.E., with and office building and four self-storage building's. As years progressed, climate controlled storage was in demand of which we have converted the lower-level of the office building into state-of-the-art climate controlled units.
