Helpful Storage and Packing Tips
STORAGE
Plan Your Space: Store frequently accessed items near the front and keep an aisle for easy access.
Inventory: Make an inventory and take photos for insurance purposes.
Prohibited Items: Avoid storing combustibles, chemicals, aerosol cans, and food.
Locks: Use a discus lock for added security.
Appliances: Clean and dry refrigerators, stoves, and freezers; leave doors slightly ajar.
Furniture: Store sofas and loveseats on end, wrapped in plastic covers, and cushions in plastic bags.
Protection: Cover items with plastic for extended storage; use mothballs to deter pests.
Tables: Break down tables with removable legs to save space.
Equipment: Drain gas from lawn and garden equipment; avoid placing them on end.
PACKING
Box Sizes: Use uniform box sizes for easier stacking; label contents on the sides.
Sealing: Seal all seams with PVC tape.
Fragile Items: Wrap dishes and glassware in bubble wrap or foam; pack in dish-pak cartons with dividers.
Furniture: Utilize empty drawers for fragile items.
Pictures & Mirrors: Pack in mirror cartons and mark as "FRAGILE"; stack on end.
Mattresses: Wrap in plastic covers and store on end.
Books: Pack books in small cartons, standing on end; fill empty pockets with paper.
Floor Protection: Avoid placing boxes on concrete; use pallets or heavy plastic.
Winter Precautions: Do not pack items that can freeze.
Clothing: Store clothing, curtains, and drapes on hangers; use wardrobe cartons.
